Mapping for SCI

Rehab helps but those sustaining a spinal cord injury rarely regain full motor function. Scientists motivated to look for ways to regrow injured nerve fibres mapped 65,000 spinal -projecting neurons using whole brain imaging, cell labelling and RNA sequencing. They found 76 types of spinal projecting neurons and divided them into three systems that govern movement and function. The study adds to the Allen Brain Atlas and provides more insight into strategies for promoting regeneration.
