Thumbs up… to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm and Zoo for creating a new accessible pier and lookout point at the Prairie Marsh Exhibit. The location of the pier makes Pond Dipping for microorganisms and plant life like dragonfly larva, water beetles leeches and plants possible. Funding was provided by the Yuel Foundation.

Thumbs up… to Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan for his recent body positivity post which was a photo of himself wearing a purple sweater with sleeves rolled up to show off a port wine birthmark covering parts of his hand, wrist and arm.
Saying that he’s endeavoured to hide his birthmark for years because he was teased unmercifully as a child and asked if it was contagious or an illness. Corgan is now out to correct one myth at a time and celebrate his individuality.

Thumbs down… to nude photos made with generative AI by kids as young as 9. Unfortunately this unintended use of the software allows children to easily create highly realistic nudes of their peers to pass around.
In a recent report by non-profit Thorn, 1 in 10 children surveyed knew that this image manipulation and sharing was happening with friends or classmates. Equally concerning, 25% thought it was normal to share nude pictures of themselves. Advocates and victims are calling on social media companies to help by introducing better information for blocking and reporting as well as new apps for safety, support, and counselling after a bad experience.
