Is reading a dying pastime?
Hopefully not. As a parent when you are a reader, you will be leading by example. Here are a few ways to encourage reading:
a) Bring books to life together
b) Read aloud
c) Create a comfy environment
d) Talk about books and various topics
e) Visit the library and attend story time.
Gentle parenting
An approach to raising happy, confident children that’s composed of four main elements—empathy, respect, understanding, and boundaries, gentle parenting focuses on fostering the qualities you want in your child by being compassionate and enforcing consistent boundaries. Unlike some more lenient parenting methods, gentle parenting encourages age-appropriate discipline that teaches valuable life lessons.
Those who practice gentle parenting encourage working together as a family to teach their children to express their feelings, but in a socially acceptable, age-appropriate manner. Gentle parenting is viewed as a beneficial method for raising happy, independent, and confident children.
Alpha-gal syndrome
First reported in the early 2000s, AGS, or mammalian meat allergy, is a reaction to alpha-gal, a sugar in mammal tissues (except humans and other primates). After certain tick bites, a child can have a delayed anaphylaxis reaction often at night after eating beef, pork, or lamb. Some medications or medical devices made with mammalian tissue can also lead to allergic reactions.
Although worldwide prevalence is rising, a recent survey found that almost ½ of the health care professionals surveyed had never heard of the disorder causing serious delays in diagnosis.
