Car trips and fibromyalgia

Deciding to go on road trip when living with chronic, widespread pain can mean body fatigue and cognitive issues that affect a person’s memory or ability to think. Being “stuck” in the car for an extended period can potentially cause symptoms. Try to split the distance over a day or two. It’s sometimes easier on your body. Repeat the same thing on the way home if you have time and give yourself recovery time after your trip. Best not to overschedule the first few days back.

What breath reveals?

New research shows gut microbes can be identified through the chemicals that we exhale. In experiments, bacteria in intestinal tracks of kids and mice matched what was exhaled during breathing. The good news: scientists have found a more rapid, non-invasive way to monitor microbiome health. Infact, breath tests could improve early detection of asthma, infections, and other microbiome-related diseases in clinical and pediatric settings.

Health of men and boys

A national strategy is needed to address the alarming need for improved health for men. The researchers suggest that men delay health screenings, wait more than six days with symptoms before visiting a doctor. They are also three times more likely to develop gambling problems and twice as likely to die from preventable causes and 72% of all apparent opioid toxicity deaths occur in men. The strategy would prevent harm, improve health and communities.

Pain lasts longer in women

For decades, differences in pain between men and women have often been attributed to psychological, emotional or social factors. Because of that, persistent pain in women is often overlooked. A published study suggests that the immune system may play a role in why recovery from pain differs. Work suggests that immune cells may also be critical and differences in how these cells function between men and women may influence how quickly pain goes away.

What’s wrong with yolks?

Tired of avoiding egg yolks in your morning omelet? It’s been shown that blood-cholesterol levels spike not due to cholesterol in food, but rather because of saturated fat. Eggs aren’t the problem, the butter you fry them in is. According to experts, healthy adults can consume one to two eggs daily because their yolks are packed with nutrients that you shouldn’t skip out on.
